Premier Players New Ruling - 2022 for 2023

The committee has decided that we are not going to have a Premier Grade in 2023.  Teams in 2023 will only be able to register 3 players per team from the 2022 Premier teams into PremA and A grades in 2023.  For clarity, this is not 3 2022 premier players on court per team,  this is only 3 x 2022 Premier players registered per team.  The committee is hoping that adding Prem players to our other teams will firstly, make the competition a lot more competitive, but more importantly, help rebuild our teams so we can once again have a Premier grade. As you are seeing this email from your individual Club/Team point of view, please understand our role as your committee is to ensure we continue to keep our competition robust, fair, and enjoyable for all our teams, from our pēpi to us in seniors, this ruling, we feel is in the best interest of our Whakatāne Netball Competition.

We urge you to check if you have any players that were in any of the four Prem teams from 2022 below, that you only have 3 registered with your team. If you have four, someone needs to go into another team:

Poroporo Rewatu; Hashtag; Opotiki Sports Prem; Trident HS Prem 1.

General Info

Fees - Netball Whakatane/Waikato/BOP Netball Zone/Netball NZ Affiliation fees

Netball NZ and the Waikato BOP Zone have kept their fees the same. Our fees are the same as 2022 which given the cost of most everything is gone up, we are proud to be able to keep them the same. Every few years or so we get new teams asking what fees cover, so just wanted to inform and remind everyone what your fees cover.

Along with fees we need to pay to NNZ and WBOP (like taxes) the fee you pay is not just for the competition and organisation of your season, but also covers all the maintenance and services i.e. court maintenance, insurance, lease, toilets; toilet supplies, power, security, refuse, prizes for the end of season winners and runners up and much much more etc.. We always try to keep our expenses down and seek funding when we can, to help keep our fees down. Fees also pay for any player/coach/umpire development that we will provide to teams.

NB: As indicated in 2021, we gave notice that we are looking at renovations for our Centre and we will let you know once these start to develop. We have been saving over many years for this as it is a huge undertaking, but fees will contribute to extensions from 2022.
