GENERAL INFORMATION    

VENUE: Whangarei Intermediate School

DATE: Wednesday 15th March 

TIME:    9.30am -2.30pm

*Pool available for warm-ups at 9am        

*Yr 7/8 must be at pool by 12.30pm

FORMAT: Results will be decided by timed finals. This means that there are no finals races, rather times are recorded from the heats and overall placings are decided on these times

Winners have the choice to attend the Northland Swimming Championships 2024

A Whangarei entry will be sent out after our Championship Swimming Day. Please remember that Northland use ages, we use years. You will have to make a choice where the swimmers go.

Stroke Technique

This is a championship event so correct strokes will be expected in all events, incorrect stroke technique will lead to disqualification

ENTRIES: The entry form will be linked below. Two entries per zone, per event, except relays – one team per zone. Up to two teams for Kamo Intermediate and Whangarei Intermediate only.

DISTANCES: 

Year 5 –Year 8: All individual races and relays are 50 metres (two lengths)

OFFICIALS: Each zone is required to have adequate adult supervision of all swimmers in the team for the entire day. One official per zone - this is essential. Entries will not be accepted without a named official

*There will be a sausage sizzle for sale as a fundraiser

*Pool gate will be open from 7.30am for Gazebos. Please set up where appropriate on the day.

By entering this event you have agreed to:

Take responsibility for shelter, sunblock and hats for all children

Comply with the rules, regulations and event instructions.

Waive all claims against the event organisers, officials, marshals and sponsors. The consent is given in accordance with the Privacy Act 1993.

RULES

Start: A) Whistle - Competitors step up. Spectators quiet. B) Take your mark. C) GO! (Starting pistol)

Finish: Touch the wall with your hand. Use both hands for breaststroke. Do not turn over onto your front before you finish the backstroke.

Relays: Organise children in the order that they will swim. Ensure they know the swimming ordera)  No swimmer may leave the block until the previous swimmer has touched the end of the poolb)  Each swimmer must touch so that the referee and next swimmer can clearly see the touch
