About the WPSSA
The WPSSA is a volunteer organisation under the Whangarei Primary Principals Association to provide sporting opportunities for Primary/Intermediate Schools across Whangarei. Each school pays a fee per student which covers the cost of organisation and facilities for each event.
The WPSSA is tasked to organise 4 major events a year. We organise these events to the best of our ability with what we have. We own no assets and teachers step up to organise each of the events.
Term 1 - Swimming is a Championship event for Year 4-8 students. We do not have have the resources of a Swimming Club but do our best to provide an event for children to test their ability.
Term 2 - Winter Sports - This event runs over two days and is one of the biggest children's events in Northland. This is a participation event, partnering with sporting codes from across Whangarei.
Term 3 - Cross Country - A Championship event bringing the best runners from across Whangarei together. The top runners from this event compete in the Northland Cross Country.
Term 4 - Athletics - A championship in track and field for our school's finest athletes.
It has been in operation for 30+ years and has partnerships with most sporting codes and High Schools. We have a strong partnership with Sport Northland as a support organisation.
