Thinking about joining Ardmore Pony Club?

Ardmore Pony Club welcomes new members. Our season starts early September and runs through to April. Rallies are held on Saturday afternoons. Some of the benefits of being a member include:

  • learning safe and effective ways to ride and look after a horse
  • the companionship of like-minded people, both parents and riders
  • being able to participate in a sport that teaches teamwork, responsibility, discipline and having fun
  • the fact that it’s a sport the whole family can enjoy

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE 2023/2024 SEASON PLEASE EMAIL [email protected]

You can become a member:

  • If you have your own pony, grazing and transport and by making an enquiry to the President
  • By speaking to the Sonshine Ranch office who may, after about 12 months of Sonshine Ranch lessons, consider you for the hire a pony programme, so that you have a ranch horse to ride at Saturday rallies

Parents:
Pony club is a family commitment. Each rider must have a non-riding parent member, for which the club pays a levy to the Franklin District and NZPC Association. Parents need to ask themselves whether they can fulfill the club’s requirements of parents. We need you -

  • to open email regularly
  • to read the minutes
  • to remind their rider about reading and replying to e-mail
  • to remind their rider to inform the rally co-ordinator about rally absences
  • to be rostered on to help at ordinary rallies
  • to provide adult helpers at events in which their rider participates
  • to attend two working bees
  • to attend a minimum of two committee meetings per season
  • to attend the AGM

Costs:

Pony riding is an expensive sport. However, all parents, whose children have been through pony club, agree that the experience is well worth the expense. For RSR pony hire riders, your first registration day will be your most expensive day, however there is also the on-going cost of hiring the pony from Sonshine Ranch ($240 a month) and the cost of camp, transporting your pony to at least one outside event and entry fees to those events.

In 2023/24 new members are asked to pay the following subs:

  • a NZPCA fee of $65.00 per member (comprising $45.00 for the rider and $20.00 for their adult parent)
  • a APC joining fee for new members of $80.00 per family
  • annual APC subscriptions of $250.00 per rider with a discount of 10% for 2 children and 15% for 3 children from the same family. ($40 of this subscription is payable directly to the NZPCA via the nominate database, the remaining subscription balance and fees are payable to Ardmore Pony Club.)
  • Back protector hire of $20 per season (unless you have your own)

Uniform

  • new jodhpurs (about $100, check colour with us before purchasing), and smooth-soled black or brown jodhpur riding boots ($ various) are available from your nearest equestrian store,  (we usually have a sale table at registration day where you may be able to pick up second-hand items)
  • The pony club long sleeved shirt hire ($20)
  • sundry smaller items such as a record card ($3) and Pony Club badge ($10)

A link to an online registration form will be emailed out prior to the season.

Payment for fees etc is by direct credit to Ardmore Pony Club:  06-0401-0182781-00
