As Club Coach Seddon  sees his role as endeavouring to

  • Teach new players the basics of playing croquet – Grip, Stalk, Stance, Swing.
  • Teach techniques of roqueting, hoop running, distance control, direction, blocking, ball positioning.
  • Teach speciality shots - angle hoop running, stop shots, jump shots, squeeze shots, cuddles, hoop clearance, crush and double tap avoidance, promotions, hiding, in/off.
  • Provide Practice Drills for all of the above
  • Give insights into how to play tactically
  • Explain how to use bisques (pinkies) effectively.
  • Explain the rules of croquet
  • Provide paper resources and internet direction to reinforce the above
  • Provide guidance in mallet purchase.

On request Seddon will run group sessions on Lawn 6 on Fridays or the following Tuesday if that is not possible.

If you want a “Warrant of Fitness” check or specific skills for just you or you and one other then Seddon can do this on a Thursday morning. A warrant of fitness is where he plays a game with you and discusses skills and tactics, possibly also learning from you at the same time. Seddon will use other club members to assist where their techniques are better than his e.g. jump shots.

In the future Seddon plans to provide links to worthwhile internet sites and copies of his coaching session handouts.

Please note that the role of the Club Coach is to serve not judge and Seddon just wants people to gain more enjoyment from this great game.
