If you like the idea of an outdoor game that provides gentle exercise without jarring or twisting and requires the use of your brain cells, then Croquet might be for you.

Croquet is more energetic than bowls but less so than fast walking. Croquet players often continue playing well into their eighties and beyond (we currently have several active members in their nineties!). Players find ways to overcome physical problems - and in fact, sometimes lack of flexibility can be turned to your advantage!

In croquet, it is not strength that is critical, but smooth stroking from the shoulders. This is important for your aim, which is more challenging than bowls and snooker (though not as hard as golf).

One of the major benefits of croquet is that it is a team sport, making it an excellent way to meet people. Croquet clubs mix people up and put partners together when doubles are played. Men and women play together on equal terms.

Club and regional events are available for those who enjoy competing. For those who are more relaxed, there are friendly, just-for-fun games.  In either case, it's a fun, social game that provides a good mental challenge.
