Golf Croquet Handicapping

  • All players have a handicap in the -6 – 16 range. This determines the number of extra shots (sometimes informally known as "pinkies") they may receive when playing handicap doubles or singles.

  • All new players are put on a 16 handicap which typically reduces to 12 or less after short time - as determined by the club handicapper.

  • To gain a lower handicap than 10 it is necessary to play in one or more of the following: tournaments, club championships, Silver Badge competitions or ladder challenges.

  • The handicapper has the right to reduce or increase a player’s handicap if in their opinion their club play merits it. (This will usually only occur when a player does not wish to play in tournaments or be on the ladder.)

  • Players can request an opportunity to reduce their handicap by playing three rotations through Hoops 1 to 6. The total number of hits required to go through 18 hoops, after reference to a chart, determines the handicap.

  • Once a handicap has been determined players are issued with a handicap record card on which results of competition games are recorded. These results determine whether you gain or lose index points. The number of index points you gain or lose is determined by the nature of the competition.

  • When you get sufficient index points you reach trigger points and your handicap changes e.g. if you get to 1250 index points you move to a handicap of 9. To drop back to a 10 you have to drop back below 1200 again. The trigger points are outlined on the handicap card. Further details on how you use the handicap card can be explained by any of the Senior players.
