The Horses Stayed Behind.

My name is Cat Auburn and I am currently working on a large national artwork in association with the Sarjeant Gallery in Wanganui.  You may have seen information about this project in the August edition of the New Zealand Horse and Pony magazine.  We are commemorating the story of the thousands of New Zealand horses sent overseas as part of the World War I effort. Only four of these beautiful creatures returned to New Zealand after the war ended.

We are creating a huge tapestry made from donations of full length horse tail hair sent from all over the country. There will be a map made of the final tapestry so each horse owner will be able to find the hair they have contribution within the finished artwork.  The finished tapestry will go on show at the Sarjeant Gallery in winter, 2015.

Touchingly, we have had over 200 donations of hair so far, from many different riders and their horses all over the country, but we need a lot more!
