The Bates Nationals at Feilding are attracting considerable interest as event manager Mary  Craine and her team go into overdrive to put the final planning stages into action  



The Bates Musical Extravaganza on Saturday night promises to be a crowd pleaser with some special entertainment lined up.



Admission is free to all sessions of the event, but from 4.30 pm Saturday, admission tickets will be required for the Extravaganza which will include the best of the Advanced horses in the Musical freestyle, the Young Rider CDIY Freestyle and the Grand Prix Freestyle plus the Stable of Stallions Showcase, Kapiti Vaulting Club and very special guest and star attraction, Jud Arthur direct from Opera Australia !




Jud’s  performance is  a guaranteed spine tingling event.

New Zealand born,  Jud is a principal artist with the national opera company of Australia . After knee injury ended a career as a professional sportsman, including rugby and basketball for Otago, representing NZ in showjumping and time at the Mirano rugby club in Italy , Jud returned home and successfully auditioned for Opera New Zealand .

As a concert artist, Jud is much in demand and has performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Melbourne Philharmonia and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra to name but a few.

Jud has also sung the National Anthem at major sporting events, legend has it that the All Blacks have never lost when Jud has sung the National Anthem!

In addition to performing there is a unique opportunity to purchase tickets for A Dinner with Jud Arthur. 7 lucky diners will be seated ringside with Jud to watch the Grand Prix Kur. Tickets include 3 course meal accompanied by fine wine. Jud has an engaging personality and it is sure to be an entertaining evening with his fascinating life experiences.

The indoor stadium will feature The Jud Arthur Table plus Gold & Silver tables for 8 as well as general admission.



A Dinner with Jud Arthur Table: Three courses fully catered – ringside. $3150 for a Table of 7 (plus Jud Arthur), or $450 individual.  



Gold Ringside Tables: Three courses fully catered – ringside.  $600 per Table of 8, or $80 individual.  

Silver Tables: Finger food. $320 per Table of 8 or $45 per individual.

As well as the coveted national titles from Level 1 through to Grand Prix, the event provides the grand finale for the national challenge finals and the final round of the accumulators for which riders have been earning points since the Gisborne regional qualifier in May 2010.



International Judges will be 4* rated  Susie Hoovenaars & Virginia Creed from Melbourne and Joan McCartney from Canada . McCartney will take a riders and judges clinic on the Sunday following the event before going down to judge in Southland and then back to Horse of the Year Show.

Note that the Masters Awards (Section 8C)  ARE OPEN TO ALL CATEGORIES OF RIDERS FROM CN - C9.  MASTERS are 55yrs & over as at 1/01/2010

All other sections & awards  are restricted to CN - C5 riders. It's not too late to start recording your scores from 1/4/2010

DRESSAGE NZ INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR  TWO APPOINTED BOARD MEMBERS &  YOUNG RIDER DEVELOPMENT Convenor  & Nominations for National Committee Appointment Panel Member



Dressage NZ invites expressions of interest in the following appointments by Tuesday 1 March 2011



1.      TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT  

An appointed board member.  Will be a member of the Dressage Performance  sub committee responsible for Academy Plans,  Dressage NZ training programmes, budgets & applications, sports science & international support. Reporting to the Training & Development Board member  includes Chief Selector, Pony & Young Rider Convenor, Island riders reps



2.      MARKETING & COMMUNICATION

An appointed board member.  Will chair the sub-committee responsible for policy/planning in regard to promotion, sponsorships, assist national events in terms of sponsorship & promotion, media, member information, volunteer promotion. Sub-committee to include national event manger(s), DNZ Sport Manager ex-officio.





3.      PONY & YOUNG RIDER CONVENOR

Dressage NZ invites applications from individuals  interested in assisting developing  the sport at this level. Responsibilities include attending two national committee meetings per year, representing the interests of pony and young riders. Will present initiatives and work with  Performance Committee and board to promote  and develop competition and training opportunities for the Under 21’s. Attend Young Rider Training camps, events. Will liase with area groups, affiliates and Pony Clubs.  



·         These positions offer meeting (travel & accommodation)  and other approved expenses as within the budget/policy of  Dressage NZ.

4. APPOINTMENT PANEL MEMBER (Elected)

The Appointment Panel Member sits on the Appointment Panel with the Chair of Dressage & Finance Officer to appoint the Training & Development Officer,  the Marketing & Communication Manager on the Board and the Young Rider Convenor and may be called on for other appointments as deemed appropriate by the Board. The APPOINTMENT PANEL MEMBER (APM) may be a member of the national committee, but this is not compulsory. They  must however be a current ESNZ financial member, with a good working knowledge of dressage and with a strong desire for the sport to progress for all levels and participants

The Annual Planning Meeting of Dressage NZ will be held at the West Plaza Hotel  Wellington on Tues 12th & Wednesday 13th April 2011 COMMENCING AT 10am



This meeting is open to all members.  Contact the Sport Manager or your Area Delegate for further information regarding accommodation at the West Plaza Hotel .
