BASIC RULES OF A SQUASH GAME (please refer to the Squash NZ Website)
The Service
- The right to serve is decided by the spin of a racket ·
- The server keeps serving, alternating from either side, until he/she loses a rally
- When serving the server must have one foot within the red service box
- The ball must hit the front wall above the middle red line and below the top red line
- The service ball must land (after striking the front wall first) in the back quarter of the court on the first bounce
The Rally
- The receiver may take the service on the full (volley) play the ball off the back wall or after it has bounced
- The ball is hit alternatively by each player and must strike the front wall before hitting the floor
- The ball is out of court if it touches the red line that surrounds the top of the court
- If the ball hits the tin at the front of the court the rally ends
The Score
- Point a Rally Scoring—PAR
- A match is played to the best of 5 games
- A point is scored off every rally
- A game is played to either PAR 15 points or PAR to 11(B1 and above)
- Should the score reach 14 all or 10 all, you have to win by 2 points
The Game
- The object of the game is to place the ball in such a position on the court so that your opponent may not retrieve it, thereby winning the rally
- Any game under match conditions is controlled by a referee assisted by a marker
