JUNIOR
UNDER 9 ROOKIE SOX

Growing the Game, Coaches and Players

The Aim of the WSA Under 9 Tee Ball and Minipitch Programme is to keep the game simple and allow children aged between 7 – 8 years to enjoy and love all aspects of the game.  The focus is fun and participation for all players in an inclusive and supportive environment that ensures equal opportunities to learn and develop at their own pace.

This programme sits in the Engaging Pathway and is modified to encompass the SNZ Foundation Pathway for children.

Why?

The Under 9 Tee Ball game is played with slight modifications of softball that matches the age and abilities of 7 – 8 year olds.

WSA recognised the Physical Literacy needs and considerations for this age group and introduced Coach Pitch in the Minipitch game to ensure children aged 7 - 8 years of age were engaged with maximum participation.

This programme will promote full participation and inclusion of all players rotating around all the positions and giving all players equal opportunities to play and develop their skills.

Having fewer players on the field and in the batting  line up ensures more touches per game for each player.

The programme played in local zones will also allow parents to have less barriers to register their children at this young age.
