Senior Leadership Team

Tēnā Koutou

It is my privilege to now lead Havelock North Intermediate (HNI). Having returned to Hawke’s Bay with my family, I bring with me over 20 yrs of experience in teaching. I have taught in the Bay of Plenty, London, SE Asia, and Auckland, with experience in NZ state schools, Independent schools in London and Auckland, and International schools, covering the NZ Curriculum, British Curriculum, and International Baccalaureate (IBPYP).

I am passionate about education, particularly the Intermediate years where the transition between primary and secondary is a huge but rewarding challenge for children. As a father of a pre-teen, I get it! Intermediate Schools offer a specialist climate for emerging adolescents and HNI is no different. This is a very unique and special time and learning and developmental needs vary from day to day. Our ‘team’ is committed to meeting this challenge.

We have a dedicated and passionate staff at HNI that strives to engage learners and celebrate success in all ways. Our school values of Respect, Empathy, Responsibility, and Resilience, are woven into our daily life. These are also strong community values and our whānau play a key role in supporting us to develop the whole child. Our vision: ‘Growing inspired learners - confident and capable to navigate the future, is about creating a culture of opportunities, togetherness, and a desire to learn, to ensure the building blocks and foundation for learning are in place for the road ahead. This means students and staff alike are responsive to the goal of being future-focused.

I look forward to working alongside our community and whānau to not only develop your child academically but to also aid in their identity development, personal accountability, and social development.

Kia ora koutou,

My name is Shyna Kesha and it is my pleasure to be the Deputy Principal of Havelock Intermediate and Year 8 Dean.

My career, spanning nearly 20 years in the Education Sector has provided me with a variety of opportunities to teach students from all walks of life and cultures. I have worked with students from lower primary to high school, in different cities and countries.

After many years of living and working in Auckland, I have decided to call Hawke’s Bay home and am excited to give back to this community through my efforts in education.

My goals in education are to ensure that everyone is provided with equal opportunities, to have the joy of learning instilled, and for students to share in their passions to become the best that they dream to be.

I look forward to the journey of learning together with you and your Whānau.

Deputy Principal

Greetings!

My name is Tanya Bunny and I am the Assistant Principal, Special Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and a year group Dean at Havelock North Intermediate. I grew up in Hawkes Bay and have over 30 years of teaching experience.

My job at HNI is to support students with learning and/or behaviour needs so they can have any programmes and support they need to achieve at school and be happy. I also work alongside the staff so that effective teaching strategies can be applied in classrooms. We pride ourselves on having a reputably inclusive school.

I help implement the school’s philosophy of inclusive education. Our philosophy, consistent with our vision, is for inclusive educational and social development of students, with targeted levels of support. Therefore, students are included in classes and participate in the curriculum at appropriate levels, with the required support, insofar as resources allow. I am also one of the deans and work with mainly year students and their families to solve any issues that may arise.

I love being part of the hard-working team that makes HNI such a great place for our students. I look forward to working with you,

Tanya Bunny
