Many people take photos or videos at sporting events and activities as a personal record of their child, often to share with family, friends and whānau.
For example, action shots during a game, a team photo, or prizegiving. We often use a professional photographer for team photos, some of which may be used as part of promotional material.
It is difficult to monitor photos being taken at an event, and even more difficult to monitor how they are shared. A child’s image may be shared via social media, on an organisation’s website, or in a publication.
Everyone needs to ensure they respect their child and others involved in the sport or activity, including players and competitors, and that all images are used and shared appropriately.
That said, we do ask teams to be respectful of the opposition. While parents and supporters are welcome to take photos or short video clips of their own child or team, if anyone wishes to film an entire game where both teams and the full court are included, we ask that they first seek consent from both teams before play begins. If either team is not comfortable with this, that decision must be respected.
If any issues arise during a game, please do not hesitate to send for a Kidzplay Netball Umpire Mentor. They will be happy to assist, speak with those involved, and help manage the situation.
