All welcome!

Masters rowing plays an important role in contributing to the vibrancy and inclusiveness of Nelson Rowing Club.  Our Masters rowing caters for all levels of athletes including learn to row, recreational and competitive rowers. Currently, our Master rowers range in age from 27 - 80 years.  Technically a Master rower is anyone 27 years and over, but club membership and our learn to row courses are open for adults of all ages from 18 years upwards (who are not attending secondary school).

We have a good range of equipment available at our Clubrooms on Cross Quay, Port Nelson with rowing taking place inside the boulder bank.  The Club also has a great facility at Lake Rotoroa which is available to members – training camps are also held at this location.

Subscription fees:           Learn to Row $100.00 (5 week course)

                                           Masters (recreational)  $460.00

Masters (competitive)  $460.00 plus RNZ license fee ($92.00 for 2021/2022 season)

Please note:                     You are very welcome to set up a payment plan to pay your subscription fees over the course                                             of a year.  Please contact our Treasurer at [email protected] to set up a plan.

Masters Learn-To-Row/Introductory Course:

Nelson Rowing Club offers five week Introductory/learn-to-row (LTR) courses for adults who are interested in rowing, and would like a "taste" of rowing to see if this is something they would like to continue.  Over the course of five weeks, you will be introduced to the basics of rowing and gain an understanding of the rowing technique by training on an erg (rowing) machine and on-water sessions.  Our coaches are experienced in teaching adults and are passionate about rowing.  The Introductory course costs $100.00 and the commitment is two sessions per week.

Novice Masters:

At the end of the course, if you wish to continue rowing, the club invites you to upgrade your membership from LTR to a Master Rower at the cost of $360.00* (that is, the difference between Masters and LTR).  As a Novice Master rower, your coaching will continue twice a week until you are fully ready to move on in the club as a Master Competitive and/or Recreational rower.  You will have the opportunity to develop your rowing skills and confidence as well as access the Masters WhatsApp group, contact lists and social activities.  To upgrade your membership, please contact our Treasurer at [email protected] .

*The club's membership year is from 1 September-30 August.  If the LTR course starts near the beginning of a membership year, your LTR fees are deducted from your Masters subscription fee when you upgrade your membership.  If the LTR course starts towards the end of a membership year, your LTR fees cover the cost of the LTR course and when the membership year rolls over, you would pay the full cost of a Masters subscription if you choose to continue rowing.

Masters Rowing:

Nelson Rowing Club has a growing number of masters rowers who row both recreationally and competitively.  It is a very social group who welcome new members.  Masters members row regularly on Sunday mornings and enjoy a social catch-up afterwards, and other days are organised via social media apps (WhatsApp).  We also have a keen and competitive group of Masters who regularly and successfully compete at regattas.

For more information about our Masters Rowing, please contact the club's Secretary at [email protected] who will put you in touch with our Coaches and/or Masters Co-ordinator to help get you on the water!
