ANZ futureFERNS is Netball New Zealand’s official junior Netball programme for Year 1 - 8 children.

To ignite a lifelong involvement in Netball, a sequential programme has been developed that is at the right level for the players at each stage. The emphasis is on fun activities conducted in a safe environment. Small sided games are the preferred training method and are proven to be the most appropriate way to enhance skill and tactical development.

Year 1 & 2

Introduces Netball to 5-6 year olds. The aim is to develop fundamental movement and basic Netball skills. Playing 4 v 4 allows the players to pass, catch and shoot from day one.

Year 3 & 4

ANZ futureFERNS Year 3 & 4 is designed to be fast and fun, maximising participation.

Year 5 & 6

Netball continues to be modified for this age group. Throughout the 2016 season, 33 Netball Centres will pilot the 6 v 6 game to allow NNZ to determine the most suitable format for this age group.

Year 7 & 8

Players have developed a considerable understanding of the game, and are now playing seven-a-side. The emphasis is on converting fundamental movement skills to foundation Netball skills which are essential for success in any sport.
