Rider Sponsorship

One of the ways the club encourages and supports club members to achieve at the highest levels of competitive cycling is through the award of rider sponsorships.

Designed to help offset significant costs that the Member would otherwise incur, applications by (or for) the club member are assessed by the NHCC committee.

Club members, or their supporters, may apply for a rider sponsorship by downloading and completing the Sponsorship Application Form (see right).  


Sponsorship categories

  • Bronze - $250
  • Silver - $500
  • Gold - $750


Circumstances likely to merit a rider sponsorship

  • Cycling NZ event (Nationals) representing NHCC involving significant travel costs
  • International UCI event
  • International event representing NZ e.g. Olympics

Applicant criteria 

  • Club member of at least two years standing
  • Regular competitor at events representing NHCC / wearing club colours


Other criteria taken into consideration

  • The extent to which the club member or their supporters have provided volunteer services to the club in the past​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
  • The extent to which other sponsorship funding is accessible / not accessible to the applicant
  • The extent to which the applicant is themselves incurring cost
  • The extent to which the applicant themselves has raised funding


NHCC expectations of riders

Recipients of NHCC sponsorships are expected to perform the role of “club ambassador” for a period of 12 months following the event to which the grant applied including but not limited to:

  • Continuing to wear club colours
  • Promoting membership of the club to fellow cyclists
  • Providing volunteers services at club events and activities
  • As appropriate speaking at club engagements
  • Providing photo and video opportunities for the club


Important Notes for Applicants

1) A decision to approve or decline an application for rider sponsorship is at the sole discretion of the NHCC committee.

2) Any rider sponsorship given to a club Member should not be seen as setting a precedent or implying a guarantee that additional sponsorships will be made in the future.

3) The NHCC committee in assessing any sponsorship will consider the club’s financial situation.  The cumulative value of grants on an annual (financial year) basis will be limited to a maximum of $2500.

4) Where a NHCC Committee member has a direct or indirect involvement, or relationship, with the person for whom an application is being made, they will recuse themselves from the committee discussion assessing that application.
