- We have locked in a date of Wednesday, 2 September. This is a week before AAIMS, However, AAIMS schools were not 100% committed to a tournament day if we changed the date, so the group has left it as is.
- Tackle confidence sessions will be available from Auckland League/ Counties Rugby League in schools prior to the day taking place. You will need to book this in through Fea. Contact is feagiai.m@aucklandleague.co.nz
- We want the students to have fun and build their confidence in their ability to tackle.
- Scott to open link on Google entry sheet in the near future. If schools could register their interest early, that would be much appreciated.
Term 1 Review
Tag
- A well-run day by Riverhead with support from Auckland League and School Sport Services, with the referees for the day. It was appreciated by some schools that both their boys' and girls' teams ended up playing on the same fields. This made management for the day a lot easier for schools. Only feedback to work on for Auckland League was that the referees were a little too quiet when making calls. The only negative feedback was that the toilets weren’t open properly on the day. The council were contacted numerous times throughout the day, but it wasn’t deemed a high enough priority for them.
Cricket
- Charlotte and her team ran another great day. All gear was supplied, and it provided students with a great introduction to cricket. Schools need to ensure they know all the rules and that they perform the fielding rotation correctly. Only feedback is that the wickets of each game need to be placed further apart. On a number of occasions, teams from other games were running through others to get their ball.
Softball/ Teeball
- Both days ran well. These were the first days of sport we had for the year. We had the support of School Sports Services, who secured funding for our tournaments to provide a number of umpires. This made our lives easier as teachers only had to focus on coaching their teams. A few issues with the draw at tee ball. The draw was redone after about 3 rounds, and everyone got on with the day. Well-run tournaments from Whenuapai. Thank you, Olivia and Candice.
Swimming
- Another great day. Our zone day took place 2 days ahead of the Auckland champs, which made things a little tricky, but the day ran well. A big thank you to Matt, Claire and all the volunteers who were the timers. The day couldn’t have run as smoothly without you.
- Auckland champs- Need to ensure we have at least one of us there to coordinate our entries on the day. There was an issue with our entries on the day, but the organisers managed to sort. Feedback for Auckland would be to maybe set aside a seating zone for each school, much like the Auckland Champs Athletics
- Scoott to create an extra column on the entry form that indicates if the student is available for the Auckland champs. Try to pre-empt admin
Tennis
- Due to the weather, the day didn’t take place again this year. A discussion was held about staging the tournament later this year. However, due to the crowded calendar, this may not happen. Olivia will discuss the possibility with Rhonda. Next year, may look at moving to Pickleball.
Term 2 Preview
Football
- The tournament is taking place at Wainoni Park in Greenhithe this year. Joe is receiving help from Mauricio from Kiwi Kickstars to run the tournament. WE will have 8 fields in operation. We have had to cap entries at 20 boys and 20 girls. We currently have 22 boys' teams wanting to enter. It is imperative that all teams entered turn up. Girls' draw is also full now at 20 teams. Paperwork is now online
- Scott to email all schools to confirm they are participating. It is IMPORTANT to respond to this email/Google form when you receive it, as if you are not sure, we need to get a definite answer, so one or two of the other schools can participate.
- Scott to discuss with principals about splitting football days. This is a massive event, and venues in our area can no longer cater for us.
Basketball
- Scott to contact the trusts to confirm two days this erm for our tournaments
- Being run over two days this year. Boys on Wednesday, Girls on Thursday. Draw will be done on Tournify
- If you are entering a mixed team and win the competition, please be aware that you couldn’t attend the Auckland Champs as a mixed team. Entry would either be restricted to boys only, or the second-placed team would need to attend.
- Waitakere College and Liston are helping with refereeing on the day. Liston can only do the Boys' day, however. We may need to enlist another school for the girls' day.
- Scoring sheets will be on the website. Feel free to fill these in prior to the day, as it saves a lot of admin. Please ensure you have a scorer for each game.
- Rules will be as per the AAIMS Sports guidelines
Table Tennis
- Hobsonville Point are hosting once again. Great day for those who don’t normally get involved in sport. It is self-umpiring. Paperwork will be out shortly.
Hockey
- 7 a side with no goalies and played on a half field. Entries will be closing at the end of week 8, which is a week earlier than planned due to Olivia being at camp week 9.
