Term 3 Review:
- Netball
- Unfortunately there was a rain delay in this taking place this year.this did cause some minor issues with some teams unable to make it on the rain date. Unfortunately, some umpires wer no longer available either. The draw had to be redone as a result.
- The teams ranked as a 3 were put in their own pool and they seemed to enjoy the sompetiton amongst similar ability teams.
- YR 5/6 netball.
- 50+ teams entered across the grades on the day. Isaac managed to secure plenty of umpires from Massey and Hobby Point Secondary school. They provided a high standard of umpiring with Massey students umpiring the finals.
- One issue Isaac did face was the amount of teams withdrawing from the day and him having to redo the draw. This happened multiple times. PLease avoid this at all costs.
- Cross Country
- This was a great day for year 5-8 students. Some schools ferried their students back and forth as the day went on, which worked well.
- There was some minor damage to the clubhouse by someof ourstudents that the principals group covered the cost of repairs. Please remind students to respect the community facilities so we are able to use into the future.
- Matt my look at holding next years event at the Kumeu showgrounds. More T.B.C.
- The Northwest zone had 2 teams place well at the Auckland Champs out at the Pukekohe Showgrounds. Well done everyone.
- Volleyball
- Gavin ran the main volleyball draw down at the trusts arena. A big thank you to Hobsonville Point for providing the umpires who were outstanding. We had capacity for 14 schools this year with 7 courts available. Unfortunately, the sound system and signage in some areas was not up to scratch. The trusts have informed Gavin that they have capacity for 9 courts next year which may allow us to run the volleyball on one day again with the increased capacity that we require. More to come on this.
- Jean ran the mini tournament down at Hobsonville School. The day went well with the 6 schools that attended there. Thank you to Morgan and Hobsonville School for hosting. It was greatly appreciated. A big shout out to Birdwood for their sportsmanship on the day. It was outstanding.
Term 4 Preview:
- Badminton
- This will now take place on Thursday 27/11. The same day as Auckland Athletics champs. Unfortunately this was the only day that we could secure at Waitakere Badminton. The entry cutoff has now been extended to reflect this.
- Touch
- Another big day is on the cards with over 40 teams participating over the three grades. Entries close at the end of next week. Please double check your entries are correct. The Main fields at Moire Park are out of action this year due to refurbishment. We will need to utilise the fields on the athletics track this year. Tournament control will still be at the rugby club garden bar due to the fields being spread out on the day. Shoes are compulsory. I will work on getting referees from Rutherford, Massey and Hobby Point. However, you may have to be prepared to referee on the day if none are available.
- Yr. 5/6 Cricket
- Entries are now open via the google sheet. THe day is taking place at huapai Domain. Schools are allowed to enter two boys and two girls teams on the day. It is a great opportunityfor kids to have ago for the first time at cricket.
- Yr. 5/6 Tag
- Entries are already full. PLease double check your entries and confirm these with Otto as he will be able to cal on a school that has missed out if you are unable to make it. We will aim to source referees on the day. Auckland League will be supporting us with the running of the day. If kids have their own tag shorts they are more than welcome to use these. However, tag belts should be bought by schools. We will aim to provide if schools do not have any.Otto had a discussion with me after about the possibility of moving next years tournament to term 1. This will take place in either week 7 or 9 in Term 1 if this does happen.
- Athletics
- Entries will be open for an extra week this term. Morgan has created a new system to help with the photo finish system. He also proposed that schools enter their top 3 students into field events regardless of zone qualifying heights/ distances. Morgan will then notify the top 12 entries across the zone if they are entered and will create a meaningful competition with a number of entries, rather than the 3 or 4 some grades are experiencing. You will have to have the distance thrown at school added to the entry also so Morgan can determine who the top 12 will be.
General Business:
- 2026 Sports Calendar
- The draft calendar was discussed and tournament organisers will go ahead with booking the venues as close as they can to the current dates set. Tournament organisers will then email scott to inform him that the venue and date is confirmed. Scott will book the trusts Arena for Basketball, Volleyball and Athletics.
- 2026 Levy
- The Zone levy will currently remain at $4.50. $2.50 for AAIMS and $2 for our zone. It will also be $1 for every year 5 & 6 student at your school. It looks like the AAIMS portion of the levy may be going up to $3 in 2027 which will result in a 50c increase to $5 per child from 2027.
- Referees
- Scott has applied for funding for referees for our first three tournaments of 2026. We are now waiting the outcome of this application. If successful, we will roll this out for future tournaments.
