Mother and son combination Sue and Daniel Fitzgerald were the winners of the handicapped mixed doubles for the Lee Cup on the final night of the table tennis season. They made the most of a 6 point advantage at the start to take the final 31-25 against another family member Jamie Fitzgerald and Sandy Lin. Both combinations had come through their respective pool play unbeaten.
The final of the men’s handicapped doubles was taken out by Ron Winchester and Paul Butler 31-27 over an Ashburton combination of Keith Holland and Hugh Millar. In pool play Butler and Winchester had come through unbeaten while Holland and Millar made it on a countback from Jonathan Hines and Jamie Sisson.
At the end of the night there was a special presentation made to Gabrielle Morrison-Stapp for her service to local table tennis. Having completed 27 years on the committee, the last 19 years at the helm of Table Tennis South Canterbury, Morrison-Stapp will be standing down at the end of her current term as President. As recognition for her service she was awarded a life membership of the association.
