Angels Time Trial Results 2018
Good turnout for yesterdays 5 Angels Hilly Time Trial and thanks to the 31 Legends of cycling who had a go on the day. A nice warm sunny day , but the building wind on the last half of the course ensured no records were broken. Glen Carabine for once didn’t have any punctures, and as a result posted the fastest time for the day. Scott McDonald and Katrina Shaw took away the Coffee Vouchers. Thanks to all the volunteers for the marshalling, timekeeping and the catering after the ride. Please note that the * riders times are 2 minutes faster than was recorded on the board yesterday, due a complication in subtracting times where the seconds finished is less than the seconds started. Instead of subtracting a minute off the minute column I added, hence the 2m difference. (Take a calculator next time.) A bonus for those who thought you went slower than you actually did.

5 Angels Hilly Time trial Results 5th November 2017
The 2017 Five Angels Hilly TT has finally been run, in that very rare thing in 2017 - fine weather!
As usual, there was a range of dramas:- a road crew commencing some resealing work at the bottom of Reid Road (they very kindly waited until everyone got up and down the hill)- Two punctures for Glen Carabine - oddly, not due to the road works, but a strand of wire through the tyre- Unsealed road on Welcome Bay Road and Waitao Rd intersection. Lots of loose gravel to navigate - it was easy to see who the mountain bikers are! Lee McLean picked the best line on the corner, barely a wobble as he cut through the gravel.- Some poor soul, lets call him Steve Neill, found that his drink bottle had been contaminated with tomato sauce, leaving him basically without decent hydration for the ride. - Several riders had done a lap of Lake Taupo yesterday and then did the Five Angels today - awesome effort guys!
The big news, however, is that the record held by Daniel Molyneux, which has stood for 6 years, was finally beaten today by Cameron Wynniatt in a brilliant time of 2:00:36 (the old record was 2:01:22). Cameron was aiming to break 2 hours, but the road crew at Reid Rd and the gravel at Waitao probably put paid to that. Still, there is always next year...
The two cafe vouchers were won by Tony Fairweather and Matt Backler.
Thanks to Greg Taylor for organising the day (so well organised he was able to ride!), to the marshalls (Katrina Tulip, Pauline Schrafft, Ray Schrafft, Talbot Munro, Stephen Lewis and Rachel Kilgour), timekeeping by Mark Ireland and the post ride refreshments organised by Jan Taylor (with some input before the day by Raewyne, who couldn't make it today).

5 Angels Hilly Time trial Results 9th October 2016
Congratulations to all the riders who took part in the clubs "Five Angels Hilly Time Trial" today, 76km in distance and 1650m of elevation gained during the ride. Just to finish this ride is a real achievement. Strong winds and lots of loose seal on the downhills meant that Daniel Molyneux's 2011 record (2:01:22) was not in danger of being broken, but there were still some very good times. A few dramas as usual, including Stacey Pask who was going very well until getting a puncture and Fraser Sharp taking a tumble. Great sportsmanship by Tom Carter in helping Fraser get back under way and keeping an eye on him.

2014 5 Angels Hilly Time Trial
Almost perfect conditions for cycling on Saturday, with mild temperatures and light winds. But it was certainly an eventful few hours - a mechanical road sweeper working on Reid Road, a crash on Rocky Cutting Road (Ian Morton falling heavily, shortly after the turn), punctures (Damien Haupt and Charles Johnson), a car driving from Waitao Rd towards Tauranga on Welcome Bay Road, with one wheel torn off at the back and half the front end of the car missing as well, and some cows crossing the road on Ohauiti Road.
At the end of it all, Glen Carabine took out first place, in a good time of 2:07:16. The record, as set by Daniel Molyneux in 2011, of 2:01:16 remains unbroken, although Nik Ansorge gave it a good nudge last year, with a 2:01:28.
However, anyone who can finish that ride is a winner, really. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
The spot prizes of $20 vouchers for Rosies Cafe went to Damien Haupt and Peter Cook.
Thanks to Greg Taylor for organising the event, to Mark Ireland for timekeeping, to our marshalls, Shane Kaio, Dean Roberts, Raewyne Cathie, Talbot Munro and special thanks to Jan Taylor and Raewyne for the soup, muffins, scones and water at the finish.
