Club Nights

Held every Monday night (including public holidays).   Club nights will focus on introducing  a range of disciplines in a fun learning environment and improving overall athletic skills.  There will be certain nights as the season progresses where times and measurements will be recorded so each child can work on improving his/her own results.

As the 2021/22 season kicks off, the committee are currently reviewing the points system we have historically used to determine our end of season age group champions.  We will keep you informed of any changes to this system as they develop.

As well as the traditional events we also like to sometimes throw in the odd novelty event and include the whole family to keep things super fun.  This is a great way to foster team spirit, include younger siblings and wind down after weekends that are busy with competitions.

For cancellations or changes of venue (only due to prolonged weather events) please refer our Facebook page.

Volunteers

We are proud to say, as a club, volunteer support from our athete's family has always been very strong. It is something that is hugely appreciated and contributes positively to the overall character of our club.

Unlike most other sports, athletics relies greatly on active participation from parents and caregivers.  Our parent helpers are vital to the smooth running and sucess of our club, which is why we request that at least one caregiver from each family regularly volunteers to help out at our sessions and at events.

We do not expect parents to coach and they do not need to be athletic (but please shout out if you have expertise in any area!)  Full instructions and direction will be given.

The role for caregivers will involve:

  • Packing up of equipment
  • Managing a small group of children in one or two development games
  • Timing/measuring and recording relevant results on our time sheets
  • Retrieving implements or raking pits.

Participating in these parent-help roles gives parents a good understanding of each discipline, what we are aiming to achieve and an opportunity to meet other parents.

Thursday and Special Trainings

These sessions can be used for working on improving technical skills, agility and speed through following your own programme from a coach or with assistance from our club volunteers.

Individual/small group coaching is offered from a variety qualified and experienced coaches throughout the area - please chat to one of the committee members to be put in touch with one if this is something that interests you.

The Timaru all weather track is available for all club members to train at should they wish, members can choose to pay a per visit price or purchase a seasons pass (see the resources tab for further details).

At times we also offer beach training and hill work as well as one off sessions in the lead up to big events or on request, please keep an eye of Facebook for this information.
