In recent years, the UHCF women’s side has seen spectacular success:
2017 – W League champions, Kelly Cup winners, Kate Sheppard Cup semi-finalists
2018 – A thriving junior girls’ development programme, a senior women’s team playing at the top local level (featuring club players breaking into senior football through to NWL and internationals), and the ONLY club with a team in every round of the inaugural Girls’ U18s competition
2019 – Continuation of the junior girls’ development initiatives, U18s and strategic decision to withdraw from W League to focus on development. The club’s strong commitment led the new Division 3 team to double promotion and a final in the Executive Plate, and runners-up in the Girls U18s competition. 2019 also saw the award of funding from the FIFA Women’s World Cup Benefits Program, recognising UHCF’s role in developing the women’s game by having former club members playing for the NZ Football Ferns in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
2020 – Double winners!! Our competitive women’s 1st team won Div 1, and in the fastest route possible, earned promotion to the Premier League. Our new social reserve team also earned promotion from Div 3 and kicked off the 2021 season as a competitively social Division 2 reserves team (proudly sponsored by the Gunshop Upper Hutt).
2021 – Performing well in Capital Premier League, the 1st team finished in the top half of the competition and won the Women’s Premier Plate Final. Our reserves team earned promotion from Div 2 to Div 1 after the first round and finished the second round in the middle of the Div 1 table.
2022 – Another strong season for our 1st team! With a 2nd place finish in the Cap Prem competition, a win in the Kelly Cup Bowl final and making it to the Women’s Premier Cup final, the team managed extremely well, despite injuries and illness throughout the season. Additionally, this was the first year the club was able to offer both a competitive reserves team and a social team, showing the growing interest in the women’s game in the area, with three senior women’s teams at the club.
2023 - Our women's programme continues to grow with our Reserves team winning Div 3 and progressing to Div 2 for the upcoming 2024 season.
2024 - Fielding 3 women's teams again this season, we saw our Reserves take back-to-back promotions and secure their place in Div 1, while our 1st team continued to hold strong in Capital Premier. The reintroduction of the 3rd social women's team played in Div 4.
2025 - Stepping out in 2025, we had 3 women's teams again, with our U16 CDL girls taking debuts in our 1st and Reserve teams. These girls helped to form our U19 competitive squad that secured the victory at Dawn England this year! Other key milestones included Rosie Baillie playing 100 1st team appearances for the club and Becky Stewart scoring an impressive 100 goals as a women's 1st player.
Chelsea Blyth, Women’s Captain: Chelsea has been an active member of the UHCF community from a young age, coming up through our juniors programme with her siblings. Chelsea has always been committed to being part of the club. After taking some time away from the pitch, she returned to football in 2023 (a bit of envy from the sidelines watching her nephew play in our TDP space) and has been an unstoppable force since. Chelsea is a true community and club person, and recently stepped into the Women's Captain position in late 2025.
Lorraine Bowring, Women's 1st Head Coach: Has been involved with UHCF in some capacity since relocating from the UK in 2007, bringing a wealth of experience as a coach and player. She has coached juniors to masters and everything in between, including organising tournament tours both domestic and overseas. Lorraine has previously coached up to the National League Women’s division and has hosted girls’ development at UHCF, supporting players’ transition along the pathway into senior teams. Since having her son Lewis, Lorraine has focused on analysis for the Men’s and Women’s Central League, Coaching Development, and has continued to coach across school and club in the junior, youth, and senior space. Her focus is to support the love of the game, grow and support individual needs.
Noel Raggett, Women's Reserves Head Coach: Has been involved in our junior and youth space for nearly 10 years. Having previously been Junior Club Captain, Noel has spent the last three seasons working with our youth girls teams and has helped to bring the latest generation of players through to the senior women’s space. With Noel’s experience working with our Girls’ Development teams, he has been able to create pathways for youth development into our Women’s 1st team, with several girls seeing their debut into Senior Women’s football this season.
Ruby Reid, Girls U15 CDL Head Coach: Has been involved with the club for over 10 years, where she played junior football and was part of the UHCF Girls Development Squad. Since returning to senior football in 2020, Ruby has moved from our Reserves team to currently being part of our Women’s 1st squad, where she has 50 appearances as a 1st team player and over 100 across Senior Women’s teams. After coaching juniors last season, Ruby has completed her Senior Level 1 Coaching Certificate and will be working towards gaining her C License, closely supported by both Lorraine and Noel. Ruby is really looking forward to stepping into this role and continuing to build and develop the pathway that has been steadily growing over the past few years.
It takes a community to grow our community and everyone within it, and we’d love your help!!
We’re keen to hear from anyone who can support female development from behind the scenes. From ensuring a quality game-day experience for our players, coaches and supporters, helping promote our women’s teams through our marketing channels or being a voice for the female players on our Executive Committee, if you have new ideas, energy and a willingness to contribute to growing our girls and women’s game, please do get in touch with Chelsea.
