VOLLEYFEST HOLIDAY PROGRAMME

The Breakaway Holiday Programme focusing on exposing young people, 11-15years, to the sport of Volleyball run during the April Holidays attracted over 65 registrations.  The balanced programme of general and specific skills combined with an introduction to game play kept the young people happy and engaged. The programme attracted participants mainly from Whangarei and also Kerikeri, Kaiwaka and Auckland.

Part of the Volleyfest initiative which suggests a festival type of environment for the sport focussing on fun, celebration as well as learning, was a key element in programme design.  The Whangarei Girls High School venue provided a good indoor environment which catered for a range of age and ability levels and focused largely on novice or new to the sport participants.

Volleyball Northland’s Grant Harrison said – “It was great to see the young participants turn up each day keen to get into learning.  The programme was pretty physical each day so to see the enthusiasm over all four days was satisfying”

Participant feedback reflected the enthusiasm and included comments on how the leaders interacted with them as well as the overall learning and enjoyment of the programme. Parent feedback supported   the participant’s feedback and many have expressed interest in further programme and opportunities.

Good morning Grant,

Thanks so much for the running the school holiday Volleyball programme.  The Kerikeri girls had an absolute blast and learnt so many skills and are now hooked on Volleyball.

Thanks again, look forward to the development days and the next school holiday programme!

Hi Grant

Just a quick note to say a massive thank you to you and your team for this week's volleyball programme.

My daughter Zoe has had the BEST TIME!!!!

Really appreciate it.

Kind regards

Jackie Wallace

“The sport is not one that many get an opportunity to play as community volleyball is limited and tends to focus more on adults, so seeing the development of playing skills and game awareness was most encouraging for the future. Over the longer term we will get more community participation and exposure. One of good things about Volleyball is it is portable to grass and the beach” – Said Grant Harrison.
