1. The Senior Boys and Girls Div 1 Championships will be in a format to cater for those teams planning to attend School Sport NZ (NZSS) Volleyball Champs and NISS Volleyball Cup in March. The numbers of registrations for these competitions will be capped to ensure the player experience is of a satisfactory standard.
Supplementary games for these teams may be arranged on Saturdays. While these games are viewed as good preparation for t eams, they are not compulsory and will not contribute to the NSSSA Championship title. However, overall results will determine the ranking for teams going to School Sport NZ (NZSS) Volleyball Champs.
Teams entering the Div 1 Championship event are not eligible to enter the alternative Senior Div 2 Volleyball Competition. This is intended as a senior student competition and therefore teams should be largely composed of senior students.

ENTRIES CLOSE for both Div 2 EVENTS– TUESDAY 25 March
These tournament is intended for senior students.A school that wants to include a junior student in their team must contact Grant Harrison at Volleyball Northland regarding the eligibility of the player.
Schools who have senior students wanting to play (however not enough for a full team) are
encouraged to combine with another local school and form a composite team. This negotiation must be communicated to both Volleyball Northland and the SSEC and be approved.
COSTS
$120 per team Division 1 Championship Tournament (rebated to $110 for member schools)
$90 per team Division 2 Tournament (rebated to $85 for member schools)
PLAYING CONDITIONS
FIVB and Volleyball Northland rules will apply with variations, where appropriate. This is a senior student competition and therefore teams must be mainly composed of senior students.
Specific playing conditions will be sent out, with the draw and playing schedule to school Sport Coordinators.
New FIVB Rules.(1 January 2025) that will apply this year
Rule 7.4 (Positions) - while the receiving team must be in correct rotational order at the point of service, players on the serving team are no longer restricted (i.e. they can stand anywhere on court)
Rule 12.5 (Screening) - players on the serving team are not allowed to raise their hands above their heads until the ball crosses the net
Time constraints on the stadium bookings mean a 4.00pm finish. This may mean games for local schools will begin earlier than 10.00am
DUTY/OFFICIALS
All teams may be required to provide 1st and 2nd Referees, Scorers and Linespersons. An adult is required to visibly supervise any students placed in these roles.
EQUIPMENT
Teams must provide their own match balls for all games.
HEALTH & SAFETY
All schools are expected to have completed their relevant EOTC and Health & Safety
requirements necessary for participation at these events.
Schools must supply their teams with a First Aid Kit that includes strapping tape. Ice will be
available at the venue.
The event Health & Safety register must be completed for any injuries sustained by players that occur as a result of participating in this event and/or accidents that occur at the playing venue.
FOOD/REFRESHMENTS
Schools are responsible for ensuring their players bring their own refreshments, snacks, lunch. Stadium rules forbid any food or drink (other than water) on the stadium floor.

(Teams can only play on one day, schools with multiple teams can spread teams over two days if required).

Year 11-13 students (if you must play Juniors this needs to be cleared by Volleyball Northland) MIXED teams (boys and girls) of six, plus substitutes. At least three girls must be on the court.

TIME ALLOCATION
10.00am (local teams) – 3.30pm (end)
Some games may start earlier at 9.00am, however these will be allocated to schools closest to the venue. Games must finish no later than 3.30pm. The tournament format will take this into account.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The format will be determined by the number of entries received. Games will be time-bound.
All teams will get the same number of games. Teams can only enter one festival event.

1. Year 9 & 10 Division 2 is a one-day tournament based on participation and giving
students, in these year levels, an experience of playing volleyball. Teams must be single
gender; however composite school teams can be negotiated. All teams will play the same
number of games.
The boys’ and girls’ events are held on the same day. Schools must indicate their venue
preference when entering. Both venues will only be used if sufficient entries are received to run a viable tournament.
2. Year 9 &10 Division 1 Volley-Cup is a one-day tournament based on providing school teams intending to compete at School Sport NZ (NISS) events with competition experience. Teams must be single gender. No composite school teams may compete in this tournament. All teams will play the same number of games.
The boys’ and girls’ events are held on different days. Both are held at McKay Stadium in
Whangarei.
TIME ALLOCATION
9.30am - 3.30pm Some games may start earlier at 9.30am however these will be allocated to schools closest to the venue.

TEAM ENTRIES
Schools may enter more than one team. The total number of teams accepted per school will be at the discretion of the Convenors and will be dependent on what best fits the resources
available and the venue.
Teams may be single or mixed gender.
They can be made up of one Year level or mixed Y7 & 8s.
Composite school teams are allowed ONLY at the discretion of the Convenors. Notification
must be given, of the intention to do this. The composite nature of the team MUST be reflected in the team’s name on entry.

Both events are an opportunity for students to represent their school and ‘have a go’ at playing volleyball outdoors on sand and grass courts.

DUTY/OFFICIALS
All schools are required to do Duty. There needs to be one teacher/parent/adult per team
present at the venue for the length of the event. They will be required to help officiate games
as part of the team duty.
EQUIPMENT
Schools are expected to supply their teams with their own volleyball.
Teams must wear approved recogniseable school sport uniforms. Schools must provide their own sunshade or gazebo. Hats and sunscreen are highly recommended.
