JANUARY  2026

We started the New Year off with the CNZ ASSOCIATION CROQUET OPEN TOURNAMENT 3-10 January. It was a great success.  Thanks to all the members who helped with the running of this tournament.  It was held over 7 days and was lots of work by many members, who made it a great success. The participants were most impressed with the condition of our lawns and also with the help from the members.    The weather was kind too.  The first 3 days were the Doubles tournament and the last 4 were the Singles.

The Doubles was won by Paddy Chapman and Edmund Fordyce, who have both played International croquet for NZ.

The Singles Title went to Logan McCorkindale from Christchurch.  He has also represented NZ   It was good to see such young men playing the game.  Their play was great to watch.

Then last week on Thursday 14th we had a downpower of rain and the lawns were flooded so badly that play has been postponed for the weekend.  I have posted a photo of the lawns uder water.   Lets hope the weather is kind for the rest of the week so the lawns recover.

OCTOBER  2025     Well we have had very unsettled weather this month, which has affected Croquet play  I hope the coming November will be much better.   Look forward to seeing you all on the lawns in the sunshine

SEPTEMBER  2025

Saturday 6th OPENING  DAY

A  good day although a little cold wind, but we had about 40 people turn up for the BBQ lunch which was sponsored by Hobson Mills Law.

No games could be played in the morning as the lawns were very soft after the overnight rain, so the prizes were raffled out to members after lunch. Then both Codes were played in the afternoon.  A good start to the season. Thanks to our Committee who provided the sweet treats.

AUGUST 2025

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT: Still playing competitive croquet at 101 years and 261 days old, Neville Sandiford competed in an 80+ Tournament at Waikanae Croquet  Club on 15 August.  Croquet New Zealand sanctioned the tournament and Anne McKenzie from Paraparaumu Croquet Club applied to Guinness World Records to make the attempt.

It was a beautiful day and Neville competed in all three games in his part of the round robin draw.  He won one of his three games.  The final was won by John Robertson and Bob McKenzie was the runner up.

The whole event was filmed by Matt McGregor and we were delighted that a reporter came from the Kapiti News.

To cap it off TVNZ sent reporter Daniel Faitaua and a camera person from Seven Sharp to interview Neville. They spent a lot of time talking to Neville, Graeme Roberts, spectators and even had a chat with the members looking after the catering in the kitchen.

Neville had a great time and was presented with a plaque to comemmorate the event.

Now we have to wait for Guinness World Records to assess the proof we will send to see if the record was acheived.

A huge thank you to Neville and everyone who came to support him and the two clubs: organisers, formal witnesses, videographers, photographers, timekeepers, kitchen staff, bringers of food, Neville's family, friends and supporters - and last, but not least the weather!

On 12 January, 2025 Waikanae Club hosted the Relish Cafe Advantage GC Doubles.

The winners were Denise Ongley & Janice Gibb from Kelburn CC. Second were Colin Bray & Sue Dixon from Paraparaumu CC. Third were Andy Johnson & Paul Michl from our club and fourth were Wendy & Gary Lloyd, also from our club. Congratulations to you all. They battled the showers, the wind and sometimes the cold. Well done to them all.

Thanks go to our four referees, plus the people who were counting on the side line who also battled with the weather elements. It was great to have their help. Thanks goes to our sponsors, Relish Café, who provided morning tea and generous prizes of vouchers for use in the café.  Thank you also to our helpers in the kitchen during the day and for the baking that our members provided for afternoon tea. To our Tournament Manager, Jennifer Komar, we all say a big thank you for the hours you spent sorting it all out!

OCTOBER 2024 The Croquet New Zealand North Island Golf Croquet Championships were held at Waikanae 10-13 October.  The weather was cold, occasionally sunny, and very windy but the rain held off (mostly).  It was a high class field and we were priviledged to watch some amazing play.  The Doubles were played Thursday and Friday at Waikanae, with the Singles played on Saturday and Sunday in both Waikanae and Paraparaumu (thank you Paraparaumu).

Congratulations to all the players, but particularly the winners:

Chris Hanrahan acted as our Captain and handed over the Certificate to their Captain, Martin Saville, for safe keeping until next year when we hope to do much better!

FEBRUARY  2024

Sponsors  BBQ evening Friday 9th February

A great evenning enjoyed by all the members who attended. It is a shame only 2 of our sponsors could attend but they did enjoy themselves.   A representative from Waikanae Funeral Home came along but couldn't stay to play. Two representatives from Summerset stayed and enjoyed a great time on the lawns with our members and then participated in the BBQ.    Lots of fun was had by all who attended.   I hope we can get more Sponsors along next year.

DECEMBER   2023

Xmas is fast approaching and I hope to see you all at our Xmas Luncheon on Saturday 16th December.  I hope you are all enjoying our lawns now. They are looking and playing well.

Xmas is fast approaching and the Xmas Luncheon is booking up fast.

September 2023:

We Opened the Summer Season with a Barbeque, and some fun games organised by Club Captain, Graeme Roberts.   Thank you to our Sponsors Hobson Mills Law, who provided a sausage sizzle lunch with desert slices provided by committee members.

Winter Season ended Saturday 26 August and lawns were closed for 2 weeks for Kapiti Coast District Council to work on them.

AUGUST

Winter play is well under way and there have been lots of players from Waikanae and Paraparaumu playing, plus players from Plimmerton, Levin, Petone and Waimari/Hutt. The lawns have been very busy and it is good to see  the Code of Association being played by so many.  We have had up to 20 players on the lawns lots of days and I know that the Golf Code has been very busy too.    Our lawns are coping well thanks to the KCDC team,  they are doing a great job keeping them in good condition.

Thanks to Peter Wallace, our Grounds person,  he is keeping the lawn surrounds short and the weeds removed.  All looking good, a big job well done.

The Summer Season starts in about  6 weeks  so looking forward to that.

MAY

The last games of the summer season will be played this Saturday the 6th of May after  our AGM.    The the WINTER SEASON begins the following SATURDAY  13th May.

The members of the Paraparaumu Club will be joining us for the WINTER  so make sure you are early to get your name in for a game.   Please make them welcome and enjoy playing with different people.

MARCH

The end of the Summer Season is fast approaching.  This means our AGM is also on the Agenda for May.   We need members to come forward to take up many of the positions which will becoming vacant at the end of this year.   Please put your name down even if you are a fairly new member,  it is a good way to get to know other members of the Club and also how everything works.

We played Levin for the Ratadalde Trophy a combined Association and Golf competition. I am pleased to say that Waikanae came out the winners this year.

The Golf Players competed against Paraparaumu for the Beth Jessop Trophy and this season the winners were Paraparaumu.

The Association Players cometed against Plimmerton for the Castle Cup which we lost this season.

FEBRUARY

We are hosting the CNZ Association Singles Tournament from Tuesday 21st to Saturday 25th so the Club will be closed for club play.  Do come along to watch 12 of the top Association players in ACTION.  Most of these players also play Golf Croquet so you can see that it is possible to play both Codes.   Look forward to seeing a lot of members enjoing watching some good croquet.

December   -  Xmas   Lunch

Our annual Xmas get together was held last Saturday the 17th December at the club rooms.    35 of our members had a very enjoyable time together on a wet December day  partaking of the wonderful spread that was organised by our very able Social Condinator Ann Joines.  A big thank you to her, and all those who provided the delicious food.    I hope to have some photos to add to the gallery when I receive them.  Four of our Life members came along,  just 1 was missing  Malcolm McLeod, which was a shame. Malcolm has a family commitment  which makes it difficult for him to participate  in Club events.   I am pleased to let you know that he has been able to come along a few times to play Association on Club days a few times this season, and  even though he plays very seldomly he hasn't lost many games.

Xmas Cake Raffle  was well supported and was won by Robin George. Thank you to all who participated in the raffle, as raffles are a way of raising funds for the Club.

As you know Club play has stopped for the Xmas Break, but you can go along and orgsnise your own games. Please  make sure when you leave that everthing is put away and locked up.   As you know the Women's World Qualifying Tournament has been cancelled, this leaves our lawns available for play by members over this time.

September 13th  2022 We are no longer in ORANGE   so masks etc are no longer required and the Club Rooms will be used as normal once again.

August 15th  WORKING  BEE   Although the day was rather damp with light rain, a lot was achieved by the 12 members who came along to help get the Club and Grounds in top order.  A big Thank You to Ann Joines who provided us with lovely scones for our morning tea.

July 30th      Just to let you all know that the Storeage Shed has been broken into and the LawnMower, Weed eater and the gas bottle have been stolen.  They also damaged the door lock.  We have an Insurance policy but we are liable for the first $1,000.  I guess it will cost at least that.  Angela organised the replacement of the lock and Gary is looking after the Insurance and replacement of the stolen items.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Opening of the new season on the 27th August.

Players  Meeting   - Sunday 3rd  July   10.30am
