Tirau Crowned 2026 Men’s Handicap Strokeplay Champions

Tirau has claimed top honours in the 2026 Men’s Handicap Strokeplay Pennants Final, delivering a composed and consistent team performance at Hamilton Golf Club on 29 March, 2026.

Contested under the Waikato Golf Interclub format, the competition brought together the top 12 qualifying teams from two zones, each vying for the title over a demanding 27-hole final. With four players per team and only the best three nett scores counting, consistency across the lineup proved crucial.

Tirau rose to the challenge superbly, posting a winning total of 324, the lowest of the day. Their success was built on a standout team effort led by Christopher Parker, whose excellent 66 in the morning round set the tone. Strong support followed from Lukas Maree (108) and Evan Stevenson (110), ensuring Tirau maintained control throughout the day. Although Guy Henderson’s 121 did not count toward the team total, it provided valuable insurance under the format.

The competition was tightly contested behind them, with Te Kowhai (325) finishing just one shot back in second place, while Tahuna (333) and Hukanui (335) were also in the mix. Several teams remained in contention deep into the afternoon round, highlighting the depth of talent across the region.

Tirau’s victory marks a deserved culmination of consistent performances throughout the campaign, and their ability to deliver under pressure on finals day ultimately proved the difference.
