Many students at WHS enjoy easy access to the local mountains and involve themselves in recreational skiing and snowboarding on a weekly basis.
We are proud to boast a number of New Zealand's top secondary school aged alpine skiiers, freeskiers and snowboaders. Some of our top snowsports athletes have gone on to represent New Zealand at the highest level including former students Cool Wakushima and Alice Robinson who both competed at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Both Cool and Alice were members of the WHS Winter Sports Academy. To find our more about this opportunity please click here.
Competitive snow sport athletes can opt into the Winter Sports Academy which enables students to train during school time and provides academic and pastoral support after school three days a week during the winter months.
There are a variety of alpine, freeski and snowboard training programmes based at either Coronet Peak, Remarkables or Cardrona that students can opt/be selected into.
Students can also compete for WHS at the Otago/Southland Secondary School Champs and the SISS Champs.
QAST - Queenstown Alpine Ski Team runs in conjunction with the Alpine Ski Academy at WHS. Ski Racing is on weekends.
