The college basketball competition is run by College Sport Wellington (CSW) click here. Teams are placed in divisions consisting of 8 teams based on the results of grading matches.
Grading matches (3 games) first 3 weeks of term 2
The purpose of grading matches is to place teams of a similar level in the same division. Apart from the top 4 junior and senior premier teams from last year, all teams will be placed into 4-team pools based on the previous season’s rankings and play a three game grading round robin.
The TOP 4 Junior and Senior Premier Teams from the previous year will be ‘siphoned off’ from the grading games and are guaranteed premier status (unless requested otherwise by the school). They play in a separate 3 match pool while the grading games occur.
Division matches (7 games) weeks 4-10 of term 2
After grading matches are completed teams are formed into divisions as below:
At any time, College Sport Wellington may make changes to ensure competition is meaningful and teams are playing at an appropriate level.
Championship round, semi-finals and grand final (3 to 5 games) in term 3
After the completion of division matches, each division is split into a top 4 and bottom 4. The top 4 play a further 3 game round robin and then semi-finals and grand final to determine the division champion. The bottom 4 play a 3 game round robin to determine 5th-8th for the following season rankings.
