Over the Line is an awesome, fast modified version of softball .
Over the Line is great for Business house leagues, small communities, schools, club training sessions and just some good old sport with banter.
What is Over the Line (OTL)?
• OTL softball is a game related directly to softball.
• It only requires 3 people per team (however you can play 4 aside or 5 aside).
• Because a game requires only three people per team, it's considerably easier to get a good informal game going or have a competitive element to it like beach volleyball.
• Like softball, you have the batter, pitcher, and fielders. It can be played on a normal grass fields, or indoors.
• Equipment consists of a rope (or lines marked in the sand or a strip mown on some grass ), an "official" softball bat and a rubber softball. When playing OTL indoors we can use the original markings inside the gymnasium (ie: basket ball lines etc)
• Unlike softball, the batter and pitcher are on the same team
• The official OTL ball is soft and spongy so no one should get injured by it, and it will cause no damage to an indoor facility
• Teams can be mixed gender or single sex. There is no advantage having an all boys team.
• Rumour has it that recently a game was played at the Softball NZ headquarters in Wellington with the SNZ staff. 1 team consisted of 3 players (from a non softball background) vs a team of 4 players (all softball playing background). After some good banter, and some laughs, and some great hitting, the inexperienced softballers came out on top....awesome
Where can we play OTL
Anyw here - that is the beauty of this game.
It can be played outside in a park, at the beach, or in a larger indoor area (school gym, community centre etc)
