Rained off unfortunately :-(

Yr 7 & 8 Playball Festival. Wed 3rd of Nov 2010, Jellyman Park.

The West Coast held their first yr 7 & 8 school softball competition on the 3rd of November and it was a huge success
A fantastic 12 teams entered the 7 aside competition which had a main focus of participation and fun.

Playball was a great introduction to softball for the students which allowed more hitting and fielding opportunities and consequently loads more fun.... and let’s face it....we all just want to hit that ball and have fun don’t we?
The games were time based, meaning that it didn’t matter how many outs you got in a specified period, you just kept batting until your ½ innings was completed.
This form of softball may not appeal to the purist softball player but the format and layout of the day was perfectly suited for the West Coast with over 50% of those who participated being brand new to the sport.

Each team that entered had 4 competitive games throughout the day with the following teams being placed in the top four
1st place        Grey Main Dodgers
2nd Place      Grey Main Flames
3rd Place        St Patricks Flyers
4th Place        Awahono Tuis

An umpiring initiative
Obviously with every softball game is the need for an umpire and a great imitative to utilise some awesome yr 10 students from Grey High school.
A great intro to umpiring and utilising leadership skills the students did great. Thanks guys and to Carlos at Grey High for helping make this possible.

Also thank you to Sports West Coast who helped out on the day and also to the Cancer Society for providing the sun shade and all important sun cream.
