Northland Coach Development Officer/NetballSmart Centre Activator


Netball Northern Zone is seeking an inspiring and proactive person who is passionate about coaching and player welfare to join our Community Team. This fixed term role is based in Whangarei, with support coverage extending to Kerikeri and other affiliated Centres in Northland.

Netball Northern Zone is one of five Regional Sporting Organisations for netball in New Zealand. Our Zone reaches from Waiuku to the Far North and we work with over 33% of New Zealand’s netball playing population.

The Northland Coach Development Officer/NetballSmart Centre Activator contributes to the Northern Zone by:

  • Undertake coach development projects at targeted Centres
  • Improve player wellbeing and welfare through coach and player education
  • Decrease serious injuries through increased awareness of NetballSmart Philosophies and practices
  • Grow the number and capability of Coach Developers, and support development and connection of Coach Developers in the Northland area
  • Key liaison for Coach Convenors/Coordinators at Northland Centres– creating connections and disseminating information from NNZ/Zone
  • Support Coach Development opportunities aligned with NNZ Coach Framework including futureFERNS foundation workshops
  • Supporting the Community Team in delivering value to grow and strengthen our Centres

Key Skills and Attributes required for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Relevant coach or coach developer qualification and sector knowledge
  • Strong understanding of community netball and working with volunteers
  • Ability to build effective working relationships quickly across a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Experience in developing and/or training coaches across all levels of the game
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise workloads

The position requires strong facilitation skills, ability and confidence to work closely with volunteers and be part of a dedicated, hardworking team. You will be highly organised, confident and calm, with a can-do attitude.

The role is fixed term, flexibility in hours from 32-40 per week, with a significant amount of evening and weekend work, but offers a high degree of flexibility around working times and practices, and a mix of in office and work from home. The remuneration package is commensurate with experience and includes tools of trade (laptop,phone) and apparel.
