Timeline

WAFC has been operating in Woodville since the early 1980s primarily with senior teams until about 1987 when junior teams were established. After a lot of fundraising the current clubrooms at Hockey Park, Grant St was established. The 1990s saw many families and players move away and Senior teams were difficult to field. Seniors last played for WAFC in 1996.

From 1996 – 2010 the club focused on having junior teams in the Manawatu competitions. Local John Henderson, has been a huge advocate for football in Woodville and it was his passion for the game that kept the club going. Without him there wouldn’t be any sport club in Woodville today.

2010 WAFC became an incorporated society and started playing in the Dannevirke Junior Football competition.

2012 WAFC became affiliated with Central Football and NZ Football to fully implement the Whole of Football program starting with the First Kicks (6yrs and under) grade. WAFC won the Participation Initiative of the Year Award at Manawatu Grass Roots Sports Awards that year.

2014 WAFC, Dannevirke Sports Club and Pahiatua Junior football formed the Tararua Football Hub to produce a more coordinated approach in the district for football activities and the mini football program (7-12years).

2015 the club delivered a 6-week football program into local schools with the support of Kiwisport funding.

2016 – 2020 The club’s main focus was on running the NZ Football Junior framework program for tamariki 4 to 14 years of age.

In 2021 WAFC fielded an under 16 youth team in the Manawatu Competition. The first time in many years. This has been sustained with current and new club members coming up through the football pathway we have created.

In 2022 The Club developed the Sponsorship programme to assist with raising funds for new/updated equipment, playing kit and to formally recognise businesses and individuals with their contributions.

2023 saw the reestablishment of a Senior Men’s team and connections made across Manawatu Football with different clubs.
