What an impressive weekend of bowls. Kia Toa hosted the Champion of Champion Fours this weekend and Sharon Leonard (skip) with her team of Marg May (lead), Julie McAuley (2nd), and Janice Williams (3rd) took control from the start to finish a stellar weekend for Leonard, winning the Fours against Geraldine's Barbara Garrick (skip), Lynare Payne (lead), Di Calvert (2nd), Linda Gallagher (3rd).
What a thrilling final. Geraldine scored first points then Kia Toa won the next four ends to be up 7 - 2. Geraldine took six points in the next two ends 8 - 7 to Geraldine. Kia Toa held their nerve, picking up six shots in three ends up 13 - 8. Geraldine picking up a two 10 -13 to Kia Toa. By the 14th end the score was 13 - 15 to Kia Toa. On the last end Geraldine were holding five shots. Leonard held her nerve and managed to draw in second shot to save the win. The final score was 14 - 15 to Kia Toa. A great game and a first title for Lead Marg May (a Junior Bowler).
There was some great bowls played over the day in some very close scoring games.
And new faces a plenty.
Pleasant Point's Champions were (lead) Jill Denton, (2nd) Lynda Fowler, (3rd) Ruth Gould, and (skip) Carol Fowler who played Waimate's Champions (lead) Raewyn Williams, (2nd) Jeanette Allnutt, (3rd) Helen Lowe, and (skip) Marie Harraway. A close game with the final score 15 - 12 to Pleasant Point.
Fairlie's Champions (lead) Shell Mcgrath, (2nd) Sally Robertson, (3rd) Bridget Anderson, and (skip) Jo Lane had a great game against Geraldine going down 15 - 11 to Geraldine.
Timaru's Champions (lead) Judy Boyle,(2nd) Carol Lee, (3rd) Eileen Rabbidge, and (skip) Lyn Wilkie played against Kia Toa in another close game but going down 18 - 15 to Kia Toa.
Temuka's Champions (lead) Michelle Wilson, (2nd) Hayley Grant, (3rd) Michelle Darby, and (skip) Carolynn Darby gave Grealdine a run for their money. The three first year bowlers played well for their Skip. But Geraldine's experience came through to take the win 16 - 14. A great game.
