Why did Harbour Hockey relocate?
Harbour Hockey relocated to make way for a much-needed transport upgrade project for the whole Albany and North Harbour community. The Northern Corridor Improvements (NCI) project includes an upgrade of Upper Harbour Highway (SH18) to full motorway status and the realignment of Paul Matthews Road and Caribbean Drive’s intersections. If we had stayed at the Paul Matthews Drive facility, our centralised facility would have been reduced to two turfs, taking away our ability to operate effectively and meet the sporting and social needs of our hockey community. We would also not have been able to carry out our expansion and create a National Hockey Centre.
Our new home at Rosedale Park West
Our new facility at Rosedale Park West provides the expanded and enhanced community facilities needed to support the growth (and growing needs) of community users; and also to promote and support participation in the sport of hockey throughout New Zealand.
The HHCT acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the NZ Transport Agency and Auckland Council to find a viable alternative site, and also the other sports of Rosedale Park who’ve enabled a reshuffle to allow us to move to Rosedale Park West.
