Instead of written reports the college allows parents and students to view achievement information and feedback at any time via the KAMAR portal.

Teachers of all subjects in both the Junior and Senior College are required to record achievement feedback for parents and students to see at least twice per term.

JUNIOR COLLEGE

Achievement in Years 9 and 10 is reported by curriculum level. For example students in Year 9 should mostly be achieving at Level 4 of the NZ Curriculum.

Curriculum levels are further subdivided into B (Basic), P (Proficient) or A (Advanced). Work that has not been completed is signified by I (Incomplete). This system results in assessment results such as 3B or 4P.

Over the course of a year, parents will be able to track and monitor their child’s achievement and progress with assessments, KC Kawa Junior Points and E-Asttle testing.

SENIOR COLLEGE

Achievement in Years 11, 12 and 13 is also reported via the KAMAR PORTAL. At least twice a term teachers will report on students’ progress toward their NCEA goals.

During Terms 3 and 4 teachers will be recording and reporting internal NCEA assessment results more often than twice a term.

FAMILY LEARNING CONFERENCES / PARENT INTERVIEWS

Family Learning Conferences are held in March/April for all students, again in September for Senior students and in December for Junior students.

FLC’S provide the opportunity for parents and students to meet with the student’s Mentor Teacher to develop a close relationship between the college and families/whanau. The FLC involves a fifteen minute meeting to set realistic learning goals for the year, discuss achievement and diagnostic data, or to review progress towards achieving NCEA or other learning goals.

An evening of Parent-Teacher interviews are held mid-year and are the opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s subject teachers to discuss progress in that subject and address any issues of concern.

EXAMS

Exams and external assessments are still an important aspect of our learning environment. Year 11, 12 and 13 students can have exams up to twice per year. Exams take place in Term 2 and late Term 3 for Year 11 to 13 students. Results of practice exams can be reported via the KAMAR parent portal.

Year 11, 12 and 13 students studying NCEA at Levels 1, 2 or 3 will sit external assessments in most subjects, in November.
