Fun volleyball facts

Origins: Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It was originally called "Mintonette" before being renamed to volleyball.

Olympic sport: Volleyball became an official Olympic sport in 1964 during the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Beach volleyball was later added to the Olympics in 1996.

Global popularity: Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world, with over 800 million registered players globally, more than football at 240 million and Basketball at 450 million.

Volleyball variations: There are many variations of volleyball, including beach volleyball, snow volleyball and sitting volleyball for athletes with disabilities.

Volleyballs in space: In 2016, a volleyball named "Wilson" (inspired by the movie "Cast Away") was sent to the International Space Station as part of a promotional event.
