40 years of Pony Club in the Greater Green Island of Dunedin City
1976
21st April
Public meeting at the Abbotsford Community Hall discussing the formation of a Pony Club. A Steering Committee was appointed and it was their function to get the Pony Club formed and working.
25th April
Steering Committee met Ken Scurr to inspect his property at McMeakin Road, Abbotsford. It was here that it was decided pony club activities would take place.
Over the next couple of months holes were filled in, fence posts and gateways erected, two toilets and jumping equipment supplied.
5th September
Opening Day for Fernhill Pony Club.
The first instructors were named: Mrs T Fairhurst, Mrs J Bates, Mrs D Green, Mrs H Marshall and Miss I King with possibly Miss C Hansen and Mrs Butler.
18th December
First gymkhana held “a real gala event with a barbeque lunch, a special programme and with Christmas in mind a Santa Claus to enliven the day.”

1994
Opportunity came up to purchase land at Flower Street. Mr Bob Fairhurst, President of the Dunedin RDA arranged the purchase and guaranteed the mortgage “wearing two hats” as he was also a pony club man.
1997
18th December
Deed of licence signed between Dunedin RDA and Fernhill Pony Club.
2009
9 September
Open invitation extended to Highcliff Pony Club members to join with Fernhill members under the Fernhill constitution.
21st October
Special General Meeting held and Fernhill Pony Club renamed to Saddleview Pony Club
December 2016
20 years at Dunedin RDA ground, Flower St celebrated with past and present members of Saddleview and Fernhill PC
Feb 2018
Saddleview Pony club exits DRDA grounds owing to change in modus operandi of DRDA and ongoing erosion of access to facilities
July 2019
Saddleview secures a lease of new grounds at Miller Park - Abbotsford - New Beginnings.
