Year 7 and 8 Tech!

YEAR 7 and 8 Tech!!

As we offically became a "Full Primary School" from Year 0-8 in 2026, it was really important that our Year 7 and 8 tamariki recieved Technology Learning - just like they do at Wairoa College.

We were unable to join the College this year and use their technoligy suites, so Tiaho has invested in equipment and resources to create our very own Technology programme that meets our tamariki and their needs! We are really excited!

Our first learning was "Whenua to Whānau" where our tamariki learned about how their tipuna used the Maramataka to plant and harvest kai. Alongside this learning, we also teamed this with food handling and safety skills.  Their theory each week was balanced with creating delicious Kai Māori!  We learned how to make Fry Bread, Stuffing and Steam Pudding.  With their learning around huawhenua (veges) they created vege rolls, and Zeny taught them how to make pork dumplings from scratch!

To top the term's learning off, Jason McNabb came in and set up shop to show them how to break down meat into different cuts, and the tamariki got to make their own fresh sausages - AND - cook them for their lunch!!!

We had an AMAZING time!!

This term we are focusing on Fibre and Soft Materials and the tamariki are learning hand-sewing skills, while they work towards their Sewing Machine licence.  They are really proud of themselves - and so are we!!
