A question we often get asked is what is a Game Official? A game official is either a umpire, umpire coach, umpire coach developer, junior umpire coordinator or a bench official. We have a great Netball NZ pathway programme to develop and support anyone wanting to get involved in our Game Official space, no matter what level you’re at.
Junior Umpire Programme - is designed for anyone Year 8 and above wishing to become an umpire, even adults can join to! This is a step-by-step programme to help you develop and achieve the skills required at each level, building you into a great umpire. We have Junior Umpire Coordinators available to support you the entire way offering feedback, advice and encouragement to progress and become a confident umpire.
Senior Umpire Programme – is designed for anyone with a Level 2 umpire qualification or above. You will feature on our main draw and be offered regular support, development and assistance from one of our specialist umpire coaches throughout the season. This is where you can progress your umpiring journey all the way up to New Zealand level if you wish!
Bench Official – our premier games held on a Thursday evening require a number of very specialised bench officials to help support the game. Bench Officials are responsible for ensuring the correct score is recorded, the correct time is played and other match details are recorded accurately. We offer support and development for those interesting in joining the Netball NZ bench official pathway.
We offer a great junior and senior umpire programme, with dedicated umpire coaches to help support you throughout the season.
