Trials Criteria and Information

Introduction

We always have a large number of boys (85-95) registered to trial.  To be fair to everyone, the expectation is that ALL boys will take part in ALL aspects of trials, unless they want to play in a lower grade team.

You don't have to trial if you don't want to.  Just email us and we'll put you in one of the lower grade teams.

Process

The format of trials is usually designed to test three key areas:

  • Skills (field players & GKs)
  • Match play #1 (small games inc. goal keepers)
  • Match play #2 (11 aside games inc. goal keepers)

Skills - inc. goal keepers

Assessment of players' basic skills is undertaken via 4 skills stations / drills. Each station will focus on a different core skill (e.g. passing and receiving skills, goal scoring, ball carrying, elimination skills). Goalies will have a skills testing program at the same time on the NHS Practice Turf.

The date for skill testing will be Friday 8th March  4-6 pm NHS 1 .

Register and retrieve your number at 3:45 pm. Don't forget your stick, mouth guard, shin guards, and water bottle.

Match play #1 - small games inc. goal keepers

Assessment of players' game play ability in small game settings. This provides an opportunity for all players to be able to showcase their game play ability, and spend more time on the ball than they might in an 11 a side game.

Goalies will have opportunity to keep during the games.

The date for small game testing will be Sunday 10th March  4-6 pm NHS 1.

Match play #2 11 a-side games  inc.goal Keepers

These trial games would enable selectors to assess things such as game awareness, decision making, and positional play. A lot of these are off-the-ball skills, which are just as important as the technical skills assessed in the previous two sessions.

The date for 11 a-side game testing will be Sunday 17 March  5:30-7:30 pm NHS 1.
