Mini Hawks (Fundamentals)

Mini Hawks is a junior squad, learning the basics of squad swimming and foundations of technique and kick across all 4 strokes for swimmers who are not quite ready to fully move from their Learn to Swim (LTS) lessons. These swimmers join Yellow squad once a week while still enrolled in a LTS program. This will give them squad swimming experience, so they are ready to transition smoothly into Yellow squad when their LTS journey is complete. Over time in this squad swimmers will be taught: 

  • Foundations of Stroke Technique & Kick 

  • Lane Etiquette and Safety 

  • Dolphin (Double Leg) kicking 

  • Correct Racing Tumble Turns & Open Turns 

  • Racing Meet Procedures

Entry criteria 

  • Must be competent (as assessed by Aquahawks coaches) at freestyle, backstroke, & breaststroke and demonstrate a basic knowledge of butterfly. To accomplish this, a swimmer should be able to swim 50m continuously in legal freestyle, backstroke, & breaststroke and 25m of something that resembles butterfly. 

  • Must be able to complete a forward roll in the water. 

  • Must be able to execute a standing dive from the side of the pool or off the starting block. 

Equipment 

Long fins, kickboard, drink bottle 

Competitions

Swimmers can attend Club Nights and take part in the Annual Club Championships. ​​​​​​​
