Senior Squad (Train to Perform)

Swimmers normally progress into this squad from Red squad, though swimmers of suitable ability can move directly into this squad after an assessment by an Aquahawks coach. This is a competitive, senior squad focused on performance at targeted events. Swimmers continue to develop good behaviours in & out of training and take more ownership of their swimming. Over time in this squad swimmers will be taught:

  • Further Stroke Technique

  • Further Racing Tumble Turn & Open Turn Skills

  • Advanced Individual Medley Skills

  • More Specific Goal Setting & Individual Race Planning

  • Self-Management Skills around Competitions & Training

Entry Criteria

  • Must be considered suitably advanced (as assessed by an Aquahawks coach) in all four strokes and all racing turns. To accomplish this a swimmer should be able to confidently swim 400m continuous freestyle and 400m legal individual medley.

  • Must have 2x Div II qualifying times or better.

  • Must be able to complete 8x100 kick @ 2:30, holding under 1:45.

  • Must be in year 9 or above at school.

Equipment

Short fins, kickboard, pull buoy, finger paddles, drink bottle

Competitions

Swimmers must attend Club Nights, Annual Club Championships, and the Napier Port Ocean Swim. This is a competitive group where swimmers will target HBPB Regional Championships, and depending on qualifying times, Div II or NAGs, and NZ Short Course Champs.
