Red Squad (Train to Compete)

Swimmers normally progress into this squad from Blue squad, though swimmers of suitable ability can move directly into this squad after an assessment by an Aquahawks coach. This is a competitive, age-group squad where training & competitive load increases and swimmers begin learning the habits & behaviours required to train and compete at a higher level. Swimmers are focused on the development of race skills and ensuring they have the required fitness, technique, and skills to compete. Over time in this squad swimmers will be taught: 

  • Further Stroke Technique

  • Further Racing Tumble Turn & Open Turn Skills

  • Advanced Individual Medley Skills

  • More Advanced Training Sets

  • Goal Setting & Race Planning

Entry Criteria 

  • Must be considered suitably advanced (as assessed by an Aquahawks coach) in all four strokes and all racing turns. To accomplish this a swimmer should be able to confidently swim 400m continuous freestyle and 200m legal individual medley.

  • Must have 3x 13yr old HBPB Winter Champs times (must include one of 100/200/400IM).

  • Must be able to complete 8x75 kick @ 2:00, holding under 1:30.

  • Must be 12 years old or older.

Equipment

Short fins, kickboard, pull buoy, finger paddles, drink bottle 

Competitions

Swimmers must attend Club Nights, Annual Club Championships and the Napier Port Ocean Swim. This is a competitive group where swimmers begin targeting HBPB Summer/Winter Championships and depending on age: Aquaknights Jr Festival, AIMS Games, or Div II Championships.
