Referee with WCPA & NZPF
Powerlifting is an entirely volunteer-led sport, and we rely on a solid base of referees to officiate our competitions, both locally and at the national level. It is expected that our referees lead by example and are aware of the IPF rules and regulations.
We have four levels of referees:
- provincial
- national
- Cat II (international)
- Cat I (highest level of international)
How do I become a provincial referee?
If you are interested in becoming a provincial referee, the first step is to complete the online exam. The pass mark is 70/75, and the exam can be done as many times as you'd like. After passing the exam, you'll need to contact Candi, our Referee Liasion, who will arrange to get you in the referee chair at an upcoming competition.
After you officiate a competition, you will need to notify NZPF's Referee Development Officers who will confirm with the Referee Liaison and/or meet director that you were a competent referee. You will then be sent your ref badge.
How do I progress to a national referee?
In order to progress from a provincial level referee to a national level referee, you must:
- Be a provincial level referee for at least two years, having officiated as a referee with a minimum of two club and/or two provincial/regional championships within this period.
- Have experience and competency as a provincial referee
- Demonstrate a willigness and avaliability ot referee and contribute to our sport at the local level
The following procedure will apply in the months before a National Championships, where National exams will be held.
1) Candidates will apply through a form on the NZPF website.
2) If they fulfill the above criteria, they are nominated/endorsed by their local assocation.
For information regarding becoming an international level referee, see the NZPF website.
