WCPA Qualifying Criteria for Regionals

To participate at Regionals for WCPA you must:

  • Be a WCPA & NZPF member
  • Participate in and set a total at a WCPA competition within the 12 months preceding Regionals (or Regionals the year before) – “Qualifying Competition”. You must set a total in the event you intend to enter at regionals, ie. to compete 3 lift you must do a qualifying competition as 3 lift. To do bench only at regionals however you can do either 3 lift or bench only.

Exceptions are if you participated in and set a total at an IPF competition in the previous 12 months either with another association within NZ or internationally and you are moving back to NZ/WCPA Region. You must provide evidence of this via e-mail and become a WCPA member and then you may participate at WCPA regionals.

QUALIFYING FAQ

I competed in a Novice Competition within the last 12 months, can I enter Regionals?

Provided you become a WCPA member prior to Regionals and you set a total at the Novice Competition then yes, your novice competition (whether as a novice or a registered member) counts as a qualifying competition for Regionals.

What does set a total mean?

To set a total means you had at least one successful lift in each discipline, at least one in squat, one in bench and one in deadlift. If you fail to have a successful lift in each discipline you did not set a total at that competition. (In a 3 lift competition). In bench only competitions it means that you had at least one successful bench attempt.

I competed in Regionals in the prior year as a registered WCPA member, do I need to do a qualifying competition for this year’s Regionals?

No, Regionals in the prior year is a qualifying competition. You just need to be a WCPA member to participate at Regionals this year.

I have competed in IPF competitions overseas (or in another region) within the last 12 months and am moving back to New Zealand (or into WCPA Region), can I enter Regionals?

Provided you set a total at an IPF competition (including another NZPF association in NZ) in the previous 12 months, can provide evidence of this and join WCPA for the current year then yes, you can enter WCPA regionals. (You must be living in our region to join or get approval from both WCPA and your local regional association).

I have competed in a Novice or Qualifying Competition in a different weight class to the one I wish to participate at in Regionals, do I need to do another competition?

You may enter a different weight class from the one you participated in at your qualifying competition, however the weight class you enter for Regionals is the weight class you must participate in. If you do not make weight you will be a guest lifter - this follows the same principles as the NZPF Nationals.

I want to participate at NZPF Nationals, what do I need to do?

To participate at NZPF Nationals you must either compete at Regionals, or North/South Island Champs in the same year as NZPF Nationals and hit a certain qualifying total – you can find this on the NZPF website.  To compete at Regionals, you must be a WCPA member and have completed a qualifying competition as noted above.

I want to participate at an International IPF Competition, what do I need to do?

To participate at an International IPF Competition you must have competed at and set a qualifying total at the NZPF Nationals in the year preceding the international competition. You must then apply to be on the NZPF Team for that  particular competition and go through the selection process. You can find out more on the NZPF website.

Note as per the previous question, to compete at NZPF Nationals you must participate at and set a total at your local association Regionals or North/South Islands.
