Archery

Archery is a year-round sport with coaching sessions held to upskill archers.

No experience is required and equipment is provided unless you would like to bring/purchase your own.

Students can participate in the Archery New Zealand School Shoot Programme, which can be completed during the school training session.  Our coaches can provide further information about this.  The programme is part of the overall Youth Programme which provides the opportunity for all Youth throughout New Zealand to compete every month.  There is a small additional cost to enter this.

Available to:

Years 07 -13.  Year 5 and 6 students may be permitted to join, however, they must first complete a coach assessment.

There is a limit of 10 students per day/class based on coaching, equipment and safety requirements.

Day / Time:

Term time from 3:30-5:00pm on a Monday, Tuesday OR Thursday.

NB:  If we have insufficient numbers to proceed with the Monday, students will be integrated into Tuesday or Thursday's groups.

Coaches:

Our coaches, John Ellis (Tuesdays) and Shaun Ryan (Thursdays) are experienced external coaches from Tauranga Archers.

Location:

Archery targets on the far side of the ACG Tauranga field.

What to wear:

  • Students should wear their ACG PE gear.
  • On cooler days it is recommended that students wear a base layer under their top and have a rain jacket in case of light drizzle.
  • Having a beanie on hand is also a good option for warmth.

Cancellations / Indoor sessions:

  • Outdoor sessions will only be cancelled if it is a heavy downpour or if the ground is significantly wet underfoot from prior rain.  Light drizzle or intermittent rain, sessions will continue as some teaching can be done undercover.
  • If it is unsuitable to be outside, the coach will facilitate a classroom session.  On these days please assemble in the gymnasium.
  • If we are unable to hold a classroom session, cancellation of the session will be advised by midday, by email to the address(es) provided on the registration form.

Make-up sessions / Short days:

With prior arrangement:

  • If a session is cancelled, students may be able to up the lesson on another day that week.
  • If school is closing early due to a school event (e.g. Parent Interviews) sessions may be able to be moved forward/earlier.  If the session remains at 3.30pm, students are unable to remain at school unsupervised until the session.  Therefore if students are unable to return later for the session at 3.30pm, you will need to advise the Sports Coordinator.   The session may then be cancelled if there are not sufficient numbers.

Fees:

$225 per student per term.  Registration is required each term.

Registrations close Friday 2 May or when classes are full.
