AIMS Games

The Zespri 2023 AIMS Games will be held from Saturday 2nd to Friday 8th September at various locations around Tauranga.

This event is the largest sporting tournament held in one location in New Zealand and gives 11, 12 and 13-year-olds an opportunity to compete as an individual or a team against students from New Zealand and invited countries in 25 codes.

All information about the tournament can be found on the AIMS Games website and in the Event Information Booklet (see link to the right).

Eligibility

We endeavour to offer as many students as possible the opportunity to attend but teams and individuals will only be entered if:

  • they meet the AIMS Games eligibility criteria

  • we have sufficient team numbers, and

  • we have the availability of adults/parents to supervise, coach, and/or manage codes and provide transport to/from events.

Team selection process

Please note the following as you consider the options with your children:

  • Students are required to meet all qualification criteria as set by the Zespri AIMS Games to compete and entry to the tournament is not guaranteed.

  • The Zespri AIMS Games is considered a championship event for Intermediate / Middle School students.  This is not a “have a go” event and students must be experienced and able to compete at a high level in their chosen sport.

  • The ACG AIMS teams will be formed specifically for the AIMS Tournament and may run independently of regular ACG Tauranga weekly competition sports teams.  Selection processes, where required, will be advised once registrations have closed.  Whilst AIMS Games provide a maximum team number per code, the number of players selected for each team will be decided by the team coach and the ACG Sports Department.

  • Students committing to represent ACG Tauranga at this event must be able to attend all pre-season / in-season tournament training sessions and meetings.  This may require reducing other extra-curricular activities.

  • Parents must be responsible for ensuring there are no clashes between the codes selected and be mindful of player/team welfare and fatigue from competing in more than one sporting code over a weeklong period.

Costs

Tournament entry fees, administration/coaching, and uniform costs will vary depending on the sport. Parents will be advised of these costs after registrations have closed, and teams have been confirmed and entered. Once registered, entry fees are non-refundable.

Schedule

As previously mentioned, parents please ensure you review the competition and programme information for each sport carefully before selecting your child's sport(s).

Whilst some events are held during the weekend and in the evenings, the majority will be throughout the week, during school time.  Students who are absent from classes during AIMS week must be prepared to do self-directed learning from home, accessing lessons via Blackboard to maintain learning and catch up on the in-class teaching that has been missed.
