The Bowling Club or Green at Clarks Beach came about after a public meeting was called in Februray 1974 by the Clarks Beach Waiau Beach Resident's Ratepayer's Assn.to investigate the possibility or erecting an all-weather green at Clarks Beach.A Committee of 8 was elected as follows:

C Fryer
R Robinson
E Norch
C Still
Later E Norch and C Still were replaced by Margaret Grenfell and Councilor Ken Hosking
Application to Franklin District Council for the land between Torkar Road and Stevenson Road was made .Recognition from the Club was acknowledged for the efforts of Ken Hosking through the Franklin District Council,for establishing a site for two greens and parking etc.By September 1974 that year an all weather would consist of Bitumen chewed up old car tyres and black sand from the west coast.Later when funds were available a grass green of Cotula was envisaged for a second green.
Then the fundraising started and it didn't seem to stop.
Committee members visited other all weather greens seeking information.Franklin District Council Engineers estimated a cost of $2,500.00 for their work.Later a meeting with council members Mr Maunsell,Mr Fredrich and Engineer Mr Campbell stated council would complete the work if the committee purchased the rubber chips.
More fundraising even sending bags of fowl manure to Auckland .
As Council Decided to sell off sections from the site next to Torkar Road ,President George Skeen suggested adding $50 to each section to benefit the funding for the new club.MrSkeen mentioned that a draft lease had been pursued with the council and was later set at $1 for a period of 12yrs
An approach to "The Church by the Seashore" to use their facilities and toilets until completing their own .Many fund raising and Gala days were held on the church property.The site for two greens was formed with the council grader.When asked how long before bowls could be played Mr Hosking stated "Sooner than you think" He said the bitumen stabilized sand from

Mr Skeen suggested calling a public meeting to form a new Bowling Club . It was suggested to form both a men's and a ladies club operated by a joint committee.An advertisement stating the above with "Great News" and ended with "Come Alive" and ensure it's success
