Gifted and Talented - Opportunities to meet students’ wider needs at Kaitaia College

Students who are identified as Gifted and Talented often crave extra opportunities to meet their needs.

Opportunities, such as clubs and competitions, also let these students meet other peers who are ‘like-minded’ and possibly share the same or similar interests. (Note: Many of these opportunities are open to all students, not just Gifted and Talented. Please enquire.)

The Ministry of Education in its document “Gifted and Talented Students - meeting their needs in New Zealand Schools” states that, “The key point for teachers is the need to offer challenging learning experiences so that potential can be realised.” Gifted TKI.org

As such, Kaitaia College offers challenging and fun opportunities for our Gifted and Talented students, both in the classroom (via the curriculum) and in co-curricular activities in the form of clubs, and competitions.

We aim to build opportunities that will help develop our tamariki in all four pillars of our school’s culture
- Taha Tinana, Taha Whanau, Taha Wairua and Te Ha o te Mauri.

This is a dynamic register and there are often new opportunities that arise throughout the year. Be sure to keep up with these opportunities via our KC daily notices - available to your child in whanau group each morning , via our Kaitaia College Facebook page or on the Kaitaia College website.

For more information, contact the Gifted and Talented Co-Ordinator - Irene Jennings, your child’s subject teacher, their Manukura or their Whanau Group teacher.

OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CLASSROOM AND BEYOND
