Information for the 2023/2024

Welcome to the 2023/24 summer track and field season for the Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club (LHAAC). The club is the largest in the Hutt Valley and provides activities for 5-6 years (under 7s), training and competition for junior athletes aged 7-15 years, and a senior contingent for athletes 16 and up (self managing).

We will be providing email updates to athletes throughout the season, but for the most up-to-date information visit this website or the club
Facebook page.

Club Nights

Club nights are Wednesdays from 6pm at Hutt Rec. Our first club night for the 2023/2024 season will be the 25th of October 2023. Thanks to investment by Council we now have improved sprinting, jumping and throwing facilities at Hutt Rec.

We encourage, and need, parents to participate on club nights – with nearly 100 children on the park there is certainly plenty to do! Tasks include managing the children, helping to run activities, measuring and generally making sure the athletes are in the right place.

This season we will be looking to mix club nights with:

  • The Athletics NZ Run Jump Throw programme - this is designed to teach children athletics skills as a means to improving performance. These skills will build foundations for sprints, longer distances, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus.
  • Competition events where there will be an emphasis on skills and technique to prepare for competitions.

How Club Night works

Each child will be placed in a grade based on their age.

Grade 7 – 15

All children and parents are to meet in front of the Grand stand. Children are to line up behind their age group sign. Any notices will be advised by the club captain, and from there, each Age Group Manager will take their group to their initial event. Each age group will normally complete three events per night. Clubnights run from 6.00pm to 7.30pm.

Under 7s Grade

We meet in the middle of the Hutt Rec track by the U7s gear bag at 6.00pm. This U7 programme is for 5 and 6 year olds and runs for 45 to 50 minutes. This programme is based on the Get Set Go programme, focusing on developing coordination, movement and balance skills, in a fun environment.

Club Night Cancellations

Club night cancellations will be displayed on our Facebook page, and we will also send emails to our members.

We will endeavour to notify club night cancellations by 4pm on the day.

Communication

Regular emails will be sent to you advising of upcoming events and other relevant information. At the beginning of each club night the club captain will update children and parents with any additional information they need to know. The club also has a Facebook page that is a great way to stay connected.
